"What is a signature beauty look?" some of you may be asking. For me, my signature beauty look is how I wear my makeup on most days, complete with my holy-grail beauty products. Having this look as a part of my beauty routine helps me to do my makeup as quickly and efficiently as possible. If you haven't yet created a signature beauty look for yourself but are considering it, today's post is for you. Read below to find out why you need a signature look and how to create one of your own.
The Why
My main reason for creating a signature beauty look was the way it makes me feel to do it. When I put my best face forward by applying this look, I instantly feel more confident. I'm nicer to the people I encounter. I'm probably a more friendlier mom and wife when out and about as well. It's a known fact that when we feel confident about ourselves as we go out into the world, it benefits our interactions with others. And while many may argue that they just don't have the time to put apply a full face of makeup, I do know that it doesn't have to take a long time. Once you get into a routine that works for you, you will be applying your makeup on autopilot, not even realizing it has only taken you 15 minutes to do. It might take a little practice to get to this point, but I can assure you that sitting up on the counter perfecting my routine definitely helped my application feel like second nature before long.
Also, getting ready for the day is made so much easier by creating a signature look. In no time, you can get the swing of doing this look routinely daily or whenever you want to put a little more polish on your look.
The Preparation
After deciding to create a signature look for yourself, you want to do a bit of preparation. I suggest getting a small notebook or using the notes app in your phone to make a few notes. Decide what products you will be using for your signature look before making any purchases. Will your look require a cat-eye, long, full lashes, and a bold lip? Or would you prefer a nice, natural look with just a touch of mineral powder foundation and shimmer pink lip gloss? Either way, make note of your choices so that you are prepared to purchase only what you need.If you already have makeup, but aren't sure what products to use, begin a process of elimination. Pull the products that make you feel good when wearing them. Throw away products that have expired, aren't your shade, or don't feel good to wear.
When choosing makeup for your signature beauty look, you must also consider what your day will look like. Will you be wearing this look to work each day? And is your look work appropriate? Or will you be saving this look for special occasions like date night or girls night out? Could it be that you work from home like me, and are just looking to keep a simple, fresh face for when you're out running errands and things like that? All of these things will affect the beauty choices you make and the bold lipsticks you may or may not add to your makeup bag.
The Process
Now that you have all of your favorite beauty products gathered in your makeup bag, you can finally have some fun and start playing up your features! These are just a few easy ways to get started on forming your signature look.1. Frame the face by getting your brows in check. Putting my brows in check has been a chore over the years. Remember the shaved eyebrows I mentioned up top? Many of you that know me may remember my thinly penciled faux brows well. Eventually, I did decide to grow my brows back and it was one of the best decisions I made! Grooming your brows frame your face, so do take the time to make sure they're shaped well (and filled in, if need be).
2. Enhance your eyes. Your eyes are the first thing people are going to see when they look at you. So depending on how much time you have, or how much you really want to invest in this, you can enhance your eyes in quite a few ways. I usually do this by applying winged liner with a liquid eyeliner paired with a volumizing mascara. It instantly brings life to the eyes. And for eyeshadow, I might apply a taupe eyeshadow on my base and a deep matte brown to define the crease. You can use whatever colors and combinations you are comfortable with, as long as it compliments your overall look.
3. Conceal, correct, and/or perfect your complexion. Perfecting the complexion is a tricky step. While it may be easy for some, it could be harder for others. Some may not feel the need to correct the complexion, while others may. Decide for yourself if you'd like to use a light base, bb cream, tinted moisturizer or a full coverage foundation. Add concealer if you need to mask any dark marks or redness you may have. Just make sure to use a setting powder if you use foundation to make it stay put!
4. Enhance the face. Now that you have your complexion all the way together, you want to add a little dimension. You can do that by adding a little blush to the apples of your cheeks, highlighter above your cheekbones, and contouring to the hollows of your cheeks. None of this is really necessary for a quick everyday look. But depending on my mood, I usually just put a little blush on or contour the hollows of my cheeks. My favorite blush is MAC Lovejoy, so if I don't enhance my face with anything else, I definitely have this on in my signature look.
5. Pucker your pout. Adding that special lip product is obviously my favorite part of creating a signature look! This is when you find your favorite lippie, as it will be what pulls your entire look together. Find you a gloss or lipstick that makes you feel your personal best, boosts your confidence, and looks flattering in the daytime or at night. For me, that lippie changes with the mood or the season. But on an average day, I choose a favorite nude or fuchsia shade from my makeup bag.
