In 1950's Medallion, we have a dressmaker who "sees heartstrings," a would-be friend set to marry a man she does not love, and an auntie that is doing all she can to avoid her dressmaker niece's gift of sight. And these aren't the only women who have secrets they hold close to their chest.

These characters grew on me and wanted to soak up every bit of my free time, y'all. Especially Miss Elsa. They went to sleep with me. Ate breakfast with me. Made me crave soul food & iced tea while I'm supposed to be watching my figure. Nonetheless, they were well worth the time spent. I made fast friends with Bailey.  I adored Walter with his hard-working self. And I sympathized with Aunt Charlene, though it took me a while to understand her decisions.

And to be all the way real with you-- reading this book felt like I went back in time for a spell. Like I made myself small & eavesdropped in on a few stories while sitting in the middle of my great aunt's "kitchen-beautician-situation."  You know those stories are juicy and the "tea is hot" when you couldn't wait to share the gossip with your mama or whoever would listen once you left. And like those hushed whispers always suggest, some folks hold heavier secrets than we could imagine.

Thank you Trisha T. Thomas for penning yet another beautiful masterpiece for readers to get lost in. I've thoroughly enjoyed this book and I've been inspired to examine my own truths. Nonetheless, I've still been careful of how close I hug people these days!
